Nikon Creator Videos
I’ve been working with Nikon New Zealand as a #NikonCreator to make several videos showcasing the stunning, new Nikon Z 8 camera and latest Nikon Z mount lenses .
Working with gear I’m comfortable with is an important consideration when it comes to camera choice. I feel that the complexities and digital features of some camera systems can be a barrier to the way we immerse ourselves in the landscape. I have been using Nikon cameras for the last 10 years and the new Z 8 feels second nature, just like my existing D 850, as it allows me to focus my attention on being engaged with the landscape.

Best Lenses for Landscape Photography
In this video, I look at the most versatile lenses for landscape photography. I think that the exceptional optical quality of this new lineup of Z-mount zoom lenses is one of the huge advancements in the design of the modern mirrorless camera system.
For most of my work, I use manual focus prime lenses for landscape photography. I will continue to use my existing setup of Nikkor PC-E 24mm f/3.5, Nikkor PC-E 45mm f/2.8, Nikkor PC-E 85mm f/2.8 and the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4 PF for most of my work. I enjoy the use of prime lenses not only because they offer amazing quality, but also a slower and more considered approach to lens choice and composition.
However, a setup of prime lenses does mean a lot more to carry, and this range of new zoom lenses will be great for times when I have to work more flexibly, like on a recent expedition down to Antarctica.

Nikon Z 8
In this video, I look at the new Nikon Z8 camera for landscape photography and my transition from shooting with the Nikon D850. Previously, I’d been reluctant to move from an SLR camera to a mirrorless system because of losing the optical viewfinder.
The way I shoot means I like to remove myself from digital technology and be very engaged with what I'm seeing and the landscape I'm in. I didn't like the idea of looking through an electronic viewfinder as I expected it might disconnect me from being immersed in the landscape.
However, I found that the ability to remove all of the information from the live view screen removed any distractions, which enabled me to be even more engaged with the landscape and focus on refining my compositions in the field.
