Richard Young is a fine art landscape photographer whose work explores the raw beauty and emotional depth of the natural world through atmospheric landscapes that invite deep contemplation. Richard’s approach is rooted in personal expression, capturing the essence of place beyond the purely visual. His artistic vision has evolved over the years from grand vistas to more intimate, introspective studies of nature. This distinctive perspective defines his work.

Originally from Sussex, England, Richard developed an early connection with nature while growing up on a country estate in the South Downs National Park. After traveling to New Zealand in 2004, he chose to make it his home and now lives in Wanaka to be close the wild landscapes he works in. His extensive travels across Africa, Antarctica, and Japan have further refined his artistic approach, expanding his body of work beyond New Zealand’s shores.

Richard’s fine art prints have been widely exhibited and his work has been recognised in prestigious international photography awards.

His recognition for creating exquisitely detailed fine-art prints has led him to work as an ambassador for Epson Printers. He also works with Nikon New Zealand as an official Nikon Creator—part of a global team of visionary artists exploring new ground.

In addition to his fine art practice, Richard is a respected educator, guiding photographers through specialised workshops that foster both technical skill and creative vision. In 2013 he founded New Zealand Photography Workshops, which is now New Zealand’s largest photography tour operator.
